Doing an acrylic paint pour is a fun DIY project and creates a wonderful piece of art for your home.
For this project, we’re using a 6-inch by 8-inch canvas and four colors of acrylic paint.
It’s going to be a nice desktop piece.
Acrylic Paint Pour
So what is acrylic paint pouring? Well, it’s a painting technique to create works of art by pouring acrylic paint onto a canvas.
Pretty simple, right? It might even be easier than painting walls and ceilings, trim, and you won’t have to fix paint drips either!
So today, we’re showing how to create an acrylic paint pour. Exciting!
Materials:
- Canvas (6″x8″) (choose your size here)
- Acrylic paint, 4 colors (choose colors here)
- Pouring medium (get it here)
- Gold glitter
- Disposable cups (see clear cups here)
- Disposable spoons or sticks (find them here)
- Large pan or plastic drop cloths to catch the paint pouring over the edges
In case you’re wondering, our paint colors are Apricot, Sunny Day, Harvest Orange, and Pale Daffodil.
Directions:
Setup Workspace
Place two disposable cups upside down in a large pan or on a plastic drop cloth.
Lay the canvas on the cups.
Mix Acrylic Paint and Medium
Pour 1 tablespoon of each color paint into 4 separate cups.
Tip: Use a separate spoon or stir stick for each color.
Add 1 tablespoon of the medium into each of the 4 cups.
Make sure to clean the measuring spoon between paint colors and before adding the pouring medium.
Stir each cup well to combine the paint and medium.
Pour Paint Onto Canvas
Pour 1 of the colors onto the canvas.
Make sure you sluff it across the canvas and use even the last few drops of paint.
Repeat with the second color, pouring it next to the first color on the canvas.
Then repeat again with the remaining colors.
Over The Canvas Edges
After all 4 cups are empty, lift the canvas a tiny bit and begin tilting the canvas to make the paint flow over the entire canvas and all of the edges.
Add Glitter
Add glitter where the lines of paint meet and other areas of the canvas as you desire.
Allow the canvas to dry for up to 48 hours.
Don’t be tempted to touch it or you might leave a fingerprint in the paint.
Large Canvas Acrylic Paint Pour
You can certainly use a larger canvas for your paint pour.
The only thing you’d need to adjust is the amount of paint and pouring medium.
Of course, you’ll also want to make sure you have a large enough catch basin or spread cardboard and painters drop cloths if you want to make a really large canvas paint pour.
