Easy Homemade Chunky Salsa DipBackyard BBQ is fun for the whole family. It’s a hot, sunny weekend and it’s time to spend some quality time with the ones you love.

Sometimes you feel like you need an excuse to get out on the yard and break out the lawn games, well, a backyard BBQ is a great excuse! Hop to it!

Our favorite backyard games to play are lawn darts (safety lawn darts of course), croquet, and horseshoes.

We don’t always get a whole bunch of time to head out to the yard and play, but we do like to make sure the time we do get to spend together is a quality time filled with fun games and good food!

Classic Backyard Games - Croquet, Horseshoes and Lawn Darts

We’re not very good at horseshoes or lawn darts, perhaps that’s because it requires you to throw things over a distance – smacking croquet balls on the ground is more our style.

Also, croquet is a game that assures someone wins.

Croquet, A Fun Backyard Game

When we play horseshoes or lawn darts it’s usually “whoever is closer to the target or post” wins (haha).

With croquet, it’s kind of like mini-golf, you play each goal until you make it through the course – and then you see who wins on the scorecard – or keep track and razz your opponents as you go! 🙂

Easy Homemade Chunky Salsa Recipe

Why chunky salsa? Okay, let’s get down to brass tacks here. I don’t like runny salsa.

It’s annoying to dip your tortilla chip into a “salsa” and have it come out dripping, and with no substance to it.

I much prefer a hardy, chunky salsa where you can dip and have some tomatoes, peppers, and onions sitting on your chip when you take a bite. A real food recipe.

Those salsas that you dip and the chip just drips with juices isn’t my style, plus who wants to put runny salsa on their BBQed meat?

So, here’s how I made this amazingly incredible, best ever, easy homemade chunky salsa.

Easy Homemade Chunky Salsa

A delicious easy homemade chunky salsa made with Hunt's Diced Tomatoes.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 28 oz can of Hunt's Diced Tomatoes any variety - we used the Basil Garlic & Oregano
  • 1/2 Large Red Onion
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper
  • 3 Jalapeno Peppers
  • 3 Cloves Garlic

Instructions

  • Strain Hunt's Diced Tomatoes into bowl (keep the juice!). I just used the can lid to pour off the juice before opening it all the way.
  • Chop the other ingredients into roughly 1/4-1/2 inch pieces, mince the garlic. We leave the jalapeno seeds in for extra hotness, but if you like your salsa mild, remove seeds to fit your taste.
  • Mix Hunt's Diced Tomatoes, Peppers, Onion and Garlic into bowl, pour juice over ingredients and mix.
  • Serve chilled for the best tasting homemade chunky salsa!
