Who loves a sugar free BBQ sauce? It’s easy and delicious! Today we’re firing up the gas grill, getting out our BBQ tube, and making a fantastic low sugar orange BBQ sauce to slather on our Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St Louis Style Ribs.

The sauce is easy to make and the ribs will be grilled hot and fast.

No 3-2-1 method, no cooking for hours and hours… Super easy, juicy, tender, and delicious.

We’ve done apple cider back ribs, we’ve done delicious easy back ribs with a mop sauce, and now we’re doing a low sugar orange BBQ sauce recipe with Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St. Louis Style ribs!

It’s time to get our ribs on! We’re cooking a slab of Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St. Louis Style Ribs, so let’s get to it!
Orange ribs BBQ sauce

Start by rubbing your ribs with your preferred rub. Feel free to use my sugar free rub recipe. Or use any rub you like. Even just salt and pepper will do.

Now let’s make the low sugar barbecue sauce. Just like grilling ribs, this is simple. You can make the sauce while your ribs are absorbing the rub or ahead of time.

Sugar Free Orange BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 yellow onion, minced
  • 1 small jalapeno, minced
  • 3 tbs minced garlic
  • 1 cup low sugar ketchup
  • 1/2 cup sugar free orange preserves
  • Juice squeezed from one Mandarin orange
  • 1 + 1/2 tbs dijon mustard
  • 1 + 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 + 1/2 tsp hickory liquid smoke

Directions

  • In a saucepan over medium heat cook the onion, jalapeno and garlic until the onion is soft and almost translucent; turn heat down.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the pan, stir and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until thickened. Stir occasionally.

Pro Tips:

  • Slide a knife under the membrane to get it started then use a paper towel to provide grip to peel the membrane off the backside of the ribs
  • Be sure you have enough propane to make it all the way through the cook 😉
  • Cook with the lid closed. If you’re lookin’ you ain’t cookin’!

Notes

This sugar free BBQ sauce recipe yields enough to liberally complete one rack of ribs. We love this recipe and make it often. Enjoy!
