Why are my chocolate chip cookies flat?

Cookies can end up flat because the butter is too soft or completely melted. Butter should only be room temperature. Too soft or melted butter can cause cookies to spread. Another reason could be too little flour. Make sure to measure accurately to avoid flat cookies. Finally, cookies can also be flat if placed and baked on hot cookie sheets. Make sure your cookie sheet is cool.
