Get your little witches and warlocks into the Halloween spirit and apply a rusty finish to your plastic trick-or-treating cauldrons!
For centuries, witches have used cauldrons to brew magical potions.
They were used for outdoor rituals and now are most notably used by little witches to collect treats on Halloween night.
Our Inspiration for this Halloween rusty cauldron DIY comes from the 240 piece Mars Chocolate Variety Mix Stand-up Pouch featuring a cackling witch. You can find this bag of treats at Walmart.
This bag of treats comes filled with SNICKERS® bars, TWIX® cookie bars, 3 MUSKETEERS® bars, and MILKY WAY® bars.
The individually wrapped candies make the perfect treats to fill your rusty cauldrons and for handing out to trick-or-treaters on Halloween.

DIY Rusty Witch Cauldron
What You’ll Need
- Plastic Cauldrons
- Orange, Brown, and Teal chalk paint
- Chalk paint wax
- Art sponges (kitchen sponges will work)
- Paint tray (paper plates work well)
- 240 piece Mars Chocolate Variety Mix Stand-up Pouch
- SKITTLES® Candy and STARBURST® Fruit Chews FUN SIZE® Variety Mix
Step 1
Begin by dabbing your sponge in the brown paint and sponge paint your way across, and up and down the cauldron.
Leave some areas bare for the orange paint.
You don’t need much paint to achieve this effect, so go sparingly.
One tablespoon of brown paint is plenty for an entire cauldron.
Step 2
Dab a clean edge of your sponge into the orange paint.
Very little paint goes a long way here, too.
Sponge the orange paint onto the cauldron, turning the sponge to a clean side to blend the orange paint in with the brown paint.
Step 3
Finally, you can use the teal paint to create a patinated look.
Simply dip a clean corner of your sponge into the teal paint and dab it around the handles.
Step 4
Allow the paint to dry completely overnight.
Then apply the chalk paint wax. Allow the wax to dry and then buff it with a clean, lint-free cloth.
Step 6
Grab your rusty cauldrons and fill them with treats from the and the 110 count SKITTLES® Candy and STARBURST® Fruit Chews FUN SIZE® Variety Mix from Walmart to hand out to all the ghosts and goblins that knock on your door.
Or grab your rusty cauldrons and head out for an evening of trick-or-treating with your little witches and warlocks!
