Slow Cooker Chili Recipe

If you’re in love with using your slow cooker or crockpot to make easy meals, you’re going to love this chili recipe. Because of the ingredients we use, this one is a very hearty chili.

It’s chock full of meat and veggies that make this recipe thick. It’s not a runny chili like some people make.

Because of the amount of quality ingredients we put into this, it can feed a hungry crew, too!

Turkey or Chicken Variation

Yes, absolutely! You can swap out the ground beef for ground turkey or even ground chicken. Make a slow cooker turkey chili or a slow cooker chicken chili the exact same way.

The spices in this recipe will work with whatever meat you decide to use in your chili.

Can I Make This Chili on the Stovetop?

If you don’t have a slow cooker or crockpot at home, this can also be made on the stove top.

Begin by browning the onion and beef in a large pot. Once they are browned, add the other ingredients and simmer for two to three hours over low heat. The chili will come out amazing!

Can I Freeze Chili?

This chili freezes quite well in plastic leak-proof zipper bags and reheats easily too. It’s definitely a recipe you can make and toss in the freezer to reheat at a later time. Ideal for meal prepping – you’ll have delicious dinner or lunches.

Freeze small batches for lunches or freeze the entire batch of chili to have for dinner sometime during the week. Make two batches, if you have two slow cookers and eat one tonight and freeze one for next week!

Reheat Frozen Chili

Place your frozen chili, still sealed in a plastic bag, in a bowl or sink of hot water for 5 to 10 minutes. It’s thawed enough when it can be broken into pieces.

If the food is in a freezer-weight container (usually made of thicker plastic to stop freezer odors from transferring to the food and to help prevent freezer burn), leave the sealed container in hot water until the food separates from its sides.

Once it has broken up or separated from the freezer bowl, open the bag or container and invert contents into a saucepan for stovetop heating or into a microwave-safe bowl.

Add 1/4 cup of water to your chili and heat until it is boiling. Once boiling, continue the boil for one minute. Remove from heat and let stand for another minute or two before serving.
